WHEN should I
Shelter-In-Place?

Different communities use different methods for emergency notification. The Emergency Alert System, or EAS, is a nationwide system using TV and radio to broadcast emergency alerts.

You may also be notified by fire or police personnel who may come to your door to instruct you to Shelter-In-Place. In other instances you may receive a live or recorded phone message.

If you live close to an industrial facility, you may hear a siren. If you hear a siren sounding continuously, stop what you are doing and turn on your radio or television.

The Emergency Alert System (EAS) is the official source of information about emergency situations in our area. You and your family should implement a Shelter-In-Place plan when the EAS system advises you of an emergency.
